Character Creation

Linkrealms Character Creation screen allows you to customize your character to create a truly unique and distinctive persona. As you create your character, you can choose from various races, facial features, hair styles, colors, and more. Simply use the options in the Character Creation screen to enjoy the creative process of bringing your character to life!

Navigation

Navigation in Linkrealms is simple, but may require a little practice. In Linkrealms, your mouse cursor is displayed as a hand with a pointed finger.

Icons

  • Located in the borders on either side of your game screen are icons that will aid you in game play.
  • The BACKPACK icon (upper left) is your inventory. Double-click to open your inventory, right-click to close.
  • The LOG BOOK icon (second icon on left) opens a window displaying a history of player text and system messages.
  • The KEY icon (third icon on left) offers several helpful options, such as Secure Item, Unsecure Item, and Go Home.
  • The SETTINGS icon (shaped like a checkmark box, last icon on the left) is used to customize settings, such as viewing and customizing hotkeys, changing speech text color, etc.
  • The BRAIN icon (upper right) is your stats menu. Here you can view your progress and levels for various skills as well as your thirst and hunger bars. This is also where you initiate Meditation and other restorative skills. Click the left and right arrows on the scroll to navigate the various pages.
  • The TOOL or WEAPON icon (second on right, while holding a Tool / Weapon) will help you tageting spaces and enemys.
  • The SKULL & CROSSED BONES icon (third on right, while holding a weapon) is your Battle Tactics menue. Each weapon has different Battle Tactics.
  • The PENTAGRAM icon (second on right, when a staff is equipped) is your Spellbook. Click to open it.
  • The HAND icon (second on right) displays a menu of Gestures, that your character can perform. Note that weapons/wands/tools must be unequipped to utilize gestures.
  • The CLAIRVOYANCE icon (eye and pyramid, lower right) lists options for the Clairvoyance skill (see Clairvoyance for more information).

Walking

Pressing the right mouse button will move your character in the direction of the pointed finger. Your character will walk if the mouse pointer is kept close to your character, or run when the pointer is moved farther away.

Following "paths" will lead you from one realm to the next. If you get lost, you can return to the “home” point where you began by using the glowing Go Home icon in the upper left corner of your screen (as soon as you get the Spell Teleport, this icon will disappear).

The screen can be zoomed in or out by using the Zoom slider on the lower border of the game window; this function can also be operated with the mouse wheel.

Mousing over an item or player will reveal details about that item, such as name, durability, heal bonus, etc. Pressing the tilde/accent key on your keyboard temporarily displays the names of all players/beasts currently on your screen. You can close any container or dialog box by right-clicking on it.

To view beasts or other players in more detail, simply double click on the character you wish to view. This will open a “paper doll” window with a rotating close-up view. By clicking the stick figure icon in the corner, you can halt or resume rotation. Use the Examination tab to view a list of items worn by a player.

To speak, simply type text in the black text box above your status bars, and hit return. The text will appear above your head and be visible to players in your vicinity. To speak globally to all players in all realms, type an asterisk (*) before your text.

Global speech and other notices appear in small text at the bottom left of your screen, so watch for those (if you miss them, you can view them by opening the History/Log book icon on the upper left of your screen). Typing “/who” or CTRL W will list everyone who is online, and their location.

Many items in the game can be used by simply double clicking on the item (for example, double-click a tomato to eat it, or double-click a sword to equip it). To use one item on another item (such as using shears to shear a sheep), double-click the item, move the bulls-eye cursor over the target object, and single click on the object.

To pick up an item, click and drag the item and drop it onto your character or into your open bag. You can also drop an item by clicking, dragging and dropping. You can move an entire pile of items by holding the CTRL key when clicking on the pile. Holding the shift key when dragging from a pile will remove only one item from the pile. If you attempt to drop an item and it disappears, you may have tried to drop it too far from your character. The item has not truly disappeared, but has automatically returned to your inventory.

To wear an item, double-click the item. If the new item replaces a previous item, the replaced item will automatically go into your inventory. To remove an item, double-click your character to bring up your paper doll, click Remove to bring up a list of all items currently worn, and click the item you wish to remove. The item will automatically move to your inventory (see Clothing/Armor for more information).

To loot a corpse (for example, if you kill a troll), double click the corpse to open the corpse’s inventory window, where you will see any loot carried by the beast. Drag the loot into your inventory, or double-click to wear or equip an item.

To securely give items to, or trade items with, another player, single-click on the player and select ‘trade’ to bring up the trade window. Place the item you wish to give or trade into the left side of the window; if the other player is giving something in return, he places his item in the right side of the window. When you are satisfied with the trade, sign the agreement by single-clicking the X next to the signature line above your name. The other player must also sign to complete the trade/gift. Right-click to close the window if you do not wish to complete the trade.

After your initial entry into the game, each time you exit and then reenter the game, you will reenter at the same point you last exited. The only exception is if you log out in one of the dungeons that resets after its quest is solved; in this case, you will enter the game at the point you were at before you entered the dungeon.

The Inventory

To open the Inventory simply click the Backpack icon in the upper left panel.

Your Crusher is important, as it allows you to create juices that will heal wounds you receive. Use your juicer on fruits to create juice. Tomato juice is especially helpful for healing. To heal, simply drink a juice. As with any skill, when you first begin practicing juicing, you will occasionally fail. The more you practice, the more skill you will gain, and the easier it will be to succeed. It does not take long to master the juicing skill. The Femur Bone Club is a weapon which allows you to begin practicing the mauling skill, and the Simple Sword allows you to begin building your severing skill (see Combat Skills for more information).

You automatically have a Bank Box issued to you when you begin the game. To access it, visit any bank, stand near the wall of boxes, and double click the boxes. You begin the game with $500 in your bank box. Money can be used to buy items from vendors and other players (see Economy for more tips on using/making money).

Items

Your Shovel will allow you to begin working on prospecting skills - see Prospecting for more information.

Your Practice Staff allows you to begin working on your sorcery skills - see Sorcery for more information.

No special item is required to begin practicing clairvoyance skills - see Clairvoyance for more.

Battle

The Shamnorwood Farm, with its snails and chickens, is an excellent place to begin practicing Combat Skills. As you gain skill, move on to other easy beasts (such as Deers or Cows). After some practice, try fighting various ghouls in the graveyard. These monsters carry weapons and clothing items you can loot to enhance your appearance and add to your weapons arsenal.
